Working with The Church, The Church Commission and the existing congregation, GRADONARCHITECTURE  managed a full design team and administered a Traditional JCT Contract form of procurement on behalf of the client. The project sees the sensitive refurbishment and re-modelling of the highly regarded Grade 2 listed Brunswick Methodist Church in the city centre of Newcastle to cater for its diverse and growing congregation and user groups. The design integrates an extended area and  place for worship, sanctuary, various community activities and a simple inviting “front of house” place to meet off the street and have a coffee. The redesigned foyer space provides a first point of community engagement and a flexible funky space which would appeals to a wide variety of people. Modern lighting and transparent materials are carefully integrated with historical features to respect the building’s history and embrace change within an ever changing world and congregation mix.
