As part of a strategic review of public spending by Northumberland County Council, Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service relocated to the site of Hexham General Hospital.
Appointed by The Council, our designs provide a functional and cost effective solution which is part new build and part refurbishment of an existing building previously used for domestic accommodation for visiting healthcare workers.
The key to the success of what appears to be a relatively straightforward and uninspiring architectural design lies in our management of intense stakeholder engagements which have been undertaken to derive at a solution which works for all who use the shared facility.
Working with Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service, Northumberland County Council and Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, our design incorporates two retained flats for hospital use and an extended two storey building to the north to create additional fire appliance bays, office, storage and ancillary accommodation, as well as garage facilities to house NFRS swift water rescue vehicles, a joint equipment loan store and a fire house and tower to provide an improved training facility.
