Gateshead District Energy Scheme was officially opened yesterday by Energy Minister Jesse Norman MP. We are delighted to have been part of the technical design team alongside CK21, Desco and Balfour Beatty delivering the project to BIM level 2. The new £8M, low carbon Gateshead Energy Centre on Quarryfield Road is the first of its kind and scale in the North East, and aims to reduce emissions and provide low cost electricity and heat direct to buildings in the town centre and Quayside area. The waste heat created by generating electricity is used to provide hot water direct to the buildings through an underground district heat network.
